Curve linearization and discretization for meshing composite parametric surfaces

چکیده
In the context of composite parametric surface meshing using a direct or an indirect (via the meshing of parametric domains) method, the discretization of interface curves joining patches plays a central part. In the case of an indirect method, the discretization of interface curves must be taken back to parametric spaces. This is usually done using root nding techniques for generally non-linear parametric functions. This paper presents a new linearization technique to determine the above correspondence. In addition, this linearization of interface curves makes it possible to obtain their discretization without explicitly computing the arc length. This method has been implemented in a surface mesh generator and an example from Fluid Mechanics is given to illustrate the pertinence of the proposed approach. High Quality Geometric Meshing of CAD Surfaces
A wide range of surfaces can be defined by means of composite parametric surfaces as is the case for most CAD modelers. There are, essentially, two approaches to meshing parametric surfaces: direct and indirect. Popular direct methods include the octree-based method, the advancing-front-based method and the paving-based method working directly in the tridimensional space. The indirect approach ...
متن کاملComputation of Shortest Paths on Free-Form Parametric Surfaces
Computation of shortest paths on free-form surfaces is an important problem in ship design, robot motion planning, computation of medial axis transforms of trimmed surface patches, terrain navigation and NC machining. The objective of this paper is to provide an e cient and reliable method for computing the shortest path between two points on a free-form parametric surface and the shortest path...
متن کاملDelaunay Triangulation for Curved Surfaces
Surface triangular meshing plays an important role in the areas of computer graphics and engineering analysis. Traditionally, surface meshing is achieved by mapping meshes created in 2D parametric space onto surfaces. Care is taken in generating meshes in the parametric space and mapping them to surfaces because the transformation of geometry from the parameter space to the real space could be ...
متن کاملGeneralizing the advancing front method to composite surfaces in the context of meshing constraints topology
Being able to automatically mesh composite geometry is an important issue in the context of CAD-FEA integration. In some specific contexts of this integration, such as using virtual topology or Meshing Constraints Topology (MCT), it is even a key requirement. In this paper, we present a new approach to automatic mesh generation over composite geometry. The proposed mesh generation approach is b...
متن کاملAn Efficient Geometrical Model for Meshing Applications in Heterogeneous Environments
This paper introduces a new neutral hybrid discrete (in the limit continuous) solid CAD model for meshing applications within the Integrated Computational Environments, based on subdivision surfaces. The model uses the Boundary Representation for the CAD model topology and the Butterfly Interpolating subdivision scheme for definition of underlying curves and surfaces. It is automatically derive...
